The Tatar Shoes

Tartars or Tartars are members of several Turkic-speaking peoples that collectively numbered more than 5 million nowadays, live mainly in west-central Russia along the central course of the Volga and Kama Rivers and east to the Ural Mountains and in Kazakhstan.

They are believed to have originated from peoples living around the Lake Baikal in Siberia prior to the great wandering of nations in the 5th century A.D.

Their culture is kept until now in their language, beliefs, strict family structure, islamic religion and in the Art.

Until now, they also keep their sophisticated art of shoemaking… 

Here, a sample from Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, the semi-autonomous region of Russia.

The shoes are contemporary, inspired by the traditional motivs.
